RVA Talks: Ashley Hawkins

It was interesting that Ashley thought she might quit Art school and got to vet school.  She said it business training was helpful to maintain art as a career.  It was interesting that Maggie Walker helped her better prepare for art critiques due to its academic rigor.  I thought it was cool that she set up her own studio and made a living as an artist.  It was interesting that she forces herself to make work because she has a busy life while taking care of her children.  I enjoy her explaining the process of screen printing and her collaborative efforts of her son making art together.  I like the idea of screen printing because one can express thoughts and ideas and make multiple of the same thing.  It was interesting that her husband is so involved in helping her maintain her business and has to make sacrifices to his life.  It was interesting that she spends a majority of her time to planning in addition to making art.  She raises funds for Staff and infrastructure and invests in the Richmond community to fill the gap and demand for people that are seeking an artistic outlook.
