Art School Thoughts
I think it is great to connect with people that are working towards becoming a better artist and expanding their knowledge in a non-liberal art college. However, constantly being surrounded by like-minded people, is not always beneficial in the long run. While, in the future the people one meets in art school does provide networking, it will also limit oneself to art field careers. If one is always surrounded by art ideology then how can one find a hidden passion or talent that is not art? Unless one is dead set on getting a career in art then one should go to a school only dedicated to art. Although, one cannot be absolutely sure because, frankly, human nature is unpredictable. Furthermore, going to an art school does not guarantee an art career in the future, like any other higher education. Going to a non-liberal art school ultimately limits oneself capabilities. In reality, the customer is not always going to ask an artist something that he or she wants/enjoys doing, more often than not, the customer wants something from the artist that is out of their own interests. Not only does attending a liberal arts school will give one access to meeting different-minded people, but it will expand one’s mind to careers that is not just art. If I did want to pursue art then I would apply to a liberal art school instead of a non-liberal art school.
