Oil Painting Process Post
Process Post #1
This is charcoal drawn lightly onto a stretched canvas board primed with orange acrylic paint. I this stage I was deciding the optimal placement of four objects (left to right): Jade monkey, pair of Pointe shoes, the Holy Bible, and an embroidered tapestry. Each of these objects represent qualities that make me the person I am today. I took advantage of the fluidity of the ribbon arranging it diagonally to direct the viewer's eye across the painting.

In this oil painting we focused on Brunaille painting method or an indirect method. I started painting with the darkest layers first because I knew they were correct and could be used as reference for proceeding layers. The changing position of the silk caused problems for painting the ribbon accurately.

I continued to add raw umber and particular like the the top right of the pointe shoe, as it reflects the light and provides contrast to the overall dark stage.
