Art 5 Q2 Experience Post
Theodore Miller immigrated from Greece and was the first in her family to graduate from college. She graduated from North Point College in NC. From a young age she discovered her love for travelling. She has a double major and was a foreign exchange student in Denmark. After a traumatic brain injury she was essentially immobilized. In her basement she painted to just paint without any expectations. From these paintings she used palette knives to scratch the canvas to take out her frustrations and anger. Eventually, she started posting her work on social medical and held an open house to display and sell her art.
The more she painted, the more her symptoms alleviated. It made her physical wellness improve.
At first she would extract her leftover palette colors and glue them onto canvas. She would rearrange the colors to fit into a puzzle.
On wood, she would paint over it with white.
She would remember Greek proverbs when her mother passed away. She would create these therapeutic paintings and translate them into English.
“If you thirst for water, we will squeeze the cloud.” She could feel the energy and passion for those words.
I thought this artist lecture was interesting because she used her artwork as a therapeutic process. I thought it was pretty amazing and impressive of her to incorporate her quotations about her mother’s passing her artwork.
