The title of the career, if I were going to be an artist as a career, would be called a fiber artist.  A fiber artist is a person that makes handy-crafts with fabric, yarn, thread, to weave, crochet, sew, or knit.  The responsibilities of a fiber artist, similar to a general artist career, is to generate and develop artistic ideas, sketch out ideas and/or make models, create or develop a piece of work in response to a brief or commission, meeting deadlines, and to make art a sustainable career.

There is no formal training or education required to become a fiber artist; however, getting a postsecondary education such as a degree in Fiber, Textile and Weaving Arts is helpful to get a career as a fiber artist.  The three top schools to study fiber arts are Cornell University offers 3 Fiber, Textile And Weaving Arts Degree programs, Rhode Island School of Design offers 2 Fiber, Textile And Weaving Arts Degree programs, and Syracuse University offers 2 Fiber, Textile And Weaving Arts Degree programs.

Although, my art as a student centers around fiber art, I do not believe a career as a fiber artist will be sustainable enough to support myself.
