Lily May Lunchtime Lecture

I think it is interesting that her social media following is such an influential part of her career as an artist.  Additionally, her background in MICA and graphic design is impressive at the age of 17 and 18.  Her process of making artwork includes script, thumbnails, color keys, pencils, inks, and colors.  I love her daily schedule and how important her physical and mental health is.  I wouldn’t think that DMs and emails are used as a tool for seeking work but it is. I’m not really sure what a digital invoice is.  Her process of choosing which medium works for her is super interesting because, in her case, she found watercolors a cheaper alternative and it also allowed her to manipulate the colors by smudging the paper.

Overall, her lecture was interesting from an art student’s point of view.  With the rise of digital drawing apps, I think using digital art would streamline her process.  Additionally, digital art, in my opinion, would look more appealing in a graphic novel and to those that use social media as their main platform of communication.  I am highly interested in how she goes about receiving commissions via emails and DMs and how she prices her artwork.
