Project #7 Process Posts
Art 5
Week #1
This is the beginning stage of a raw umber underpainting. I was paid $250 for my uncle as commissioned work.
Week #2
The continued process of my underpainting of adding deep colors and details.
Week #3
This is really where I started to have fun with oil painting. I knew I wanted an expressionistic look that shows brushwork.
Week #4
This is where the painting started to come into view as a beach landscape. I had trouble differentiating the sky from the ocean as the blues had similar values. I love the purple shadows below the palm trees.
Week #5
This was my favorite part of the painting so far which was using a tiny brush to create the palm leaves. The tallest palm tree looks a bit unnatural, so I am going to repaint this part. Also, there is some color disparity between the sky and the water. I want to add Cerulean blue to the middle section of the sky. Additionally, the horizon line needs touching up.
Week #6
I spoke to Coach Hall about my painting and he said that the beach was too intense and the sky was too dark. This made the colors feel more realistic. Overall, I pretty happy about this final decision.
