Week #25 Experience Post

http://exhibitions.artandwriting.org/national-exhibition-2020/

I visited the virtual 2020 National arts and writing online exhibition.  I really enjoyed the mixed media section of the gallery in which they showed tapestry, pottery, and sculptures. Regarding the photography section of the gallery, I don’t really understand why some photos of portraits, children, and random objects are worthy of being shown in an exhibit.  I wonder why some photos are chosen for recognition over others.  I appreciate the technical aspect of the sculpture making and how many years of experience was put into the sculpture.  I wonder how they made such skinny parts of the sculpture without the thin parts breaking in the kiln.   I appreciate the diversity of the textiles shown in the exhibit.  I wonder how the wire sculpture was held up by the slip dress.  It was interesting to see unconventional materials used such as trash, wires, and plastic in the dress.

I really enjoy the gold key portfolios.  The photos of the traditional Chinese ways of life. I love the composition and values of the grey and black photos.  I wonder if this person is Chinese and how he or she stayed in China for.  I also enjoy the comic section in the gallery.  I wonder how long each panel took the artist to create.  I know drawing and inking takes forever.  It is interesting to see the combination of storytelling, comics, and art in an exhibition.  Overall, the paintings section in the galley, is amazing.  I love how realistic and how bright and saturated the colors are.  I wonder why there are so many more paintings than any other art mediums shown in the galley.

My art might be influenced by how well the craftsmanship and technique are used in the gallery. It amazes me of the high level of detail in each and every artwork.  I can distinctly see the artist’s voice or vision when I look at their art.   I aspire to do the same with my crocheting.  Seeing these young and talented artist pushed me to do my best and to never lose sight as an artist.
